P A S S I O N

"Writing about music is like dancing about architecture"

Sitting here tonight, in this stellar gorg studio just outside of NYC, watching  Grammy winning producer Ron Saint Germain put the MIXpertise on my latest musical project with Hey Aviator &I feel alive.  I am alive in this feeling.  I am alive in the process of creation & all the beautiful moments it took to get here.  I am honored to be in the company of such great talent & I am HYPER from too much sugar, tooooo many diet cokes & the excitement of new music on the way !!
I have often likened the process of recording to that of entering a small baby into a beauty contest.
"Oh, here!  Take my pride & joy.  Do you think she's pretty?  Do you think she's a contender?  Oh..What?  Oh..ok I .errr uhh yeh, but she looks so CUTE at home!!"

It's definitely a dance & I'm not talkin' bout The Hustle in a strappy Halston dress under laser strobe lights; I'm talkin' bout the slow kind, a two-step taking place between everyone involved. When everyone feels safe dancin' sans the shoes?
 The AHA Moment.
Creativity gets comfy saunterin' in with a swag & the magic is born & baby gets a new dress ;)
I have met extraordinarily talented musicians in this world; some of whom not only own stacks of  gold & platinum records hanging upon their walls, but also own sweet & gentle hearts of the same golden style.   I have met those whose award winning talents have carried them around the world countless times over, while a steadfast two feet on the ground continue to carry them through a life of modesty & respect.  I have also met those whose aspirations within the music industry have not brought them exceptional wealth nor any notoriety, but a life lived within their own desire. A joy without calculated value...a priceless endeavor of the heart.
And In all of these I have found  but one common denominator:   Passion

"There is no end. There is no beginning. There is only the passion of life."
Federico Fellini

Tonight I'm wishing you all the passion your little ticker can muster & all the love this world has to offer.

"WISH I WAS HERE"

"don't wanna close my eyes..don't wanna fall asleep, cause I'd miss you & I don't wanna miss a thing"      Aerosmith

I'm a postcard hound.  I love the way they catch my eye, all shiny & glossy, spinning around on a tiny metal frame from just inside an airport gift shop or some little gas station window alongside the highway.  They beckon me in to look closer, to pick them up & feel their feather weight within my hand. They intrigue me just enough to thumb through their beautiful images until I am compelled to purchase them & take them home.

I especially love that idea when I'm in NYC. There's something absolutely mystical about being enveloped in a massive city of gargantuan proportions & suddenly becoming mesmerized by the most miniature of tiny treasures.  One has to stop & wonder how it's even possible for any one thing or any one person to capture our attention at all in this busy, bustling, infinite world of distraction.  But somehow it does.  Somehow they do. I guess no matter how majestically ornate the world around us grows or how technologically savvy we become, we're all still longing to be captivated.   We still want to discover the world for ourselves, even when our lightning speed Internet connections & brilliant phones are so desperately hard at work sealing up the universe for our canned consumption.
I think what we really want is the slow-speed connection.  Something tactile & truly meaningful. Something that even on a gloriously stunning day doesn't have to have a huge yellow  "smiley face" sticker bolted on the front in order to give it purpose. Salt, sweat, tears.  Someone with some bumps & bruises & a few philosophies that might just make us rethink our own. Some little piece of magic sooooo tiny, so ridiculously fragile that it might have fallen right through the cracks ...
had you not discovered it for yourself

Writing myself a postcard today with the caption "Wish I was Here"  because I don't wanna miss a thing..
