"Streetlight People"

The music was loud, the kind of loud that's almost too loud for a public shopping space, but at the same time just loud enough to keep the energy high & customer's spirits up while waiting in a long checkout line.  I noticed her first...striped purple & black hair & an Anime backpack, she maneuvered her way to the front of the line in her over sized chunky black combat boots & a bad religion t shirt.   All of 15, she was brooding & deliberate as her new found spot in line found her directly beside Mr. Snappy Sports Jacket.  Mr. Snappy Sports Jacket was approximately 65 years of age with a fabulous head of silver hair & a bright green polka dot tie. He possessed the faintest scent of POLO by Ralph Lauren, a noticeable look of dismay for Combat Girl & a very expensive pair of dress shoes.

As the two stood side by side awaiting their purchases of  birthday cards & a "Kiss me I'm Irish" headband,  Journey began to play.  As Steve Perry sang "Just a Small town Girl livin in a lonely world",  I watched in utter amazement as Miss Combat Boots & Mr. Ralph Lauren suddenly began to sing at the exact same moment, both completely oblivious of the other's sing-along status, both in complete unison & surprisingly in key!  It was one of those moments where you look for the hidden camera behind you because it feels too good to be real.  A moment to stop & smile, I would say to yourself,  but I actually smiled out loud.
I smiled the kind of smile that made me remember how completely odd, surreal & amazing life can be ..
We're all connected, no matter how different we appear.

True life is better than any fiction

And the timelessness of a band as great as Journey??    Indisputable
